@danilodezulueta
(b. 2004) is a process-based, interdisciplinary artist originally trained in industrial design and video production. His practice utilizes petrochemical products, time, and performance across sculpture, video, and painting. Born in post-American Clark, de Zulueta applies repetition, restraint, scale, and material vulnerability through industrial, blue-collar-like processes to examine socio-political systems of movement, particularly mobility, transport, and circulation in the immediate post-colonial Maritime Southeast Asia.
Since 2024, he has collaborated with and presented work through institutions and initiatives including the PWU School of Fine Arts and Design, FEU High School, Panday Sining, and the UGATLahi Artist Collective.
De Zulueta is currently pursuing a BMMA in Film and Video Production at CIIT College of Innovation and Integrated Technology, where he studies multimedia installation and video documentation of performance, with an expected graduation in early 2029.
Curriculum Vitae & Portfolio
I am an undisciplinary artist who creates projects that capture the boundaries of movement, for those that are defined by systems, so that they are transformed and displaced from stillness.
As someone who had interdisciplinary, trade-focused training in industrial design and video production, I found that it infected my former conservative notions of artmaking. It turned me into someone who tries to achieve synthesis in my practice through a hands-on approach to making, observing, and experiencing the subject matter or problems I inquire into.
I use performative acts such as commuting, recording with a smartphone, loitering, and making ice tubig as a way to take control of my concepts while considering even the materials embedded in my practice. For example, using a smartphone lets me work with an object that even the urban poor in Southeast Asia have access to for media; it also serves as a mode of photography that lets me present an immediate, unfiltered reality of the spaces I encounter.
Just like with my training, I aim for the viewers to become displaced not only with perspectives on art, but also with the relationships, or politics, within the spaces that they are inhabiting and interacting with.
